NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old man was arrested in southeast Delhi for allegedly murdering his wife on Thursday after he suspected her of infidelity. The accused, identified as Ashwani, is a waiter with tent houses. The victim, identified as Sheetal, was found in a house in Shakti Nagar, with multiple injuries on her face and neck along with strangulation marks on her neck, said police.

"There was a quarrel between the couple on the day prior the murder. Ashwani strangled Sheetal and was arrested from Satya Niketan," said Ajay Chaudhry, additional commissioner of police (southeast). According to police, Ashwani had married Sheetal after a love marriage. However, he grew suspicious of Sheetal's character later. He even fell in love with another woman, Neha, and married her. This led to his constant fights with Sheetal, said cops.

The accused shifted to a rented accomodation in Shakti Vihar with Neha, said cops. "Sheetal came to know about his new address and she started living with them since the last 10-12 days," said Additional CP Chaudhry.

On Thursday night, Ashwani allegedly asked Neha to leave with his two-year-old son and meet him near Meetha Pur Chowk. "Ashwani strangled Sheetal after Neha left home and fled from the spot," said a senior cop.
