Oct 15, 2011: Prostitution racket busted

PUNE: The crime branch of Pune busted a sex racket following the arrest of a 29-year-old woman from Nigdi. The police have rescued a woman, who was forced into prostitution by the suspect. Acting on the tip-off the police team led by inspector of social security cell Bhanupratap Barge laid a trap and nabbed the woman.

Barge said that he received a tip-off that one woman was forcing some girls from other states into prostitution. "To confirm the information we sent a decoy customer near Sant Dnyaneshwar garden in Nigdi," Barge said.

He said that the police raided the spot after getting confirmation from the person and arrested the suspect. She has been charged under section of Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA).

Barge added that on October 10 the social security cell has arrested one Vikas Dharwad (23) for allegedly forcing a woman into prostitution. "Acting on the tip-off, we raided a spot at Dange Chowk and rescued the woman," Barge said.

Along with Dharwad, the police have also booked another woman, who is still missing A case in this regard has been registered with the Hinjewadi police station.

The investigating team comprising assistant police inspector Vimal Bidve, sub-inspector Ashwini Jagtap, police constables Dattatreya Nikam, Ashok Takalkar, Kashinath Ubhe and Datta Jadhav participated in the raids.
