LUDHIANA: A cop of the district police committed suicide on Saturday morning by jumping in front of a train in Gill village. The deceased, Bhajan Singh, had on Friday night allegedly killed his lover and her husband. Police said Bhajan, 42, who is married with three children, was having an affair with another married woman identified as Pinder Kaur, 37.
Their relationship had been strained for some time and Bhajan was allegedly unhappy with Pinder's behaviour. On Friday night around 11pm, Bhajan went to Pinder's house in Manakwal area and using his service carbine shot 15 rounds at Pinder and her husband Balwinder Singh, a mason. The couple have two children. After killing the couple, the accused fled from the spot but on Saturday morning his body was found on the railway tracks in Gill village. Based on preliminary investigation, station house officer (SHO) of Sadar police station Harinder Singh said Bhajan was posted as constable in 3rd battalion in IRB and was deputed as security guard in Chaura Bazaar branch of Bank of India.
"We had registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code against Bhajan but, since his body was found from the railway tracks, Government Railway Police will also deal with this case. A post-mortem examination was conducted in civil hospital and the body handed over to GRP. We have not yet recovered the weapon Bhajan used for killing the couple," said the SHO. SHO of GRP B S Randhawa informed that around 8am on Saturday morning they received a call from the station master about finding a body. "The deceased was in uniform and had the official identity card. On calling up the police we got to know that he had allegedly killed a couple on Friday night," Randhawa said.
