Aug 10, 2011: Man, parents get life sentence for murder

KANPUR: A man and his parents were convicted by additional district sessions judge Rohtas Singh Gangwar on Monday for committing a murder and sentenced for life imprisonment, with a fine of Rs 10,000 each.

The sentenced persons were identified as Rakesh Kumar, his father Shivram and Chidana, residents of Macrobertsganj.

The accused were charged under Section 498 A.304 B IPC and alternate charge of 302 IPC and u/s 3 / 4 Anti-Dowry Act. The judge punished the accused under Section 302 of IPC.

Rakesh Kumar and his parents were charged for murdering his 22 years old wife Reena.

Rakesh and Reena were married on May 15, 2006. She was found dead on January 10, 2009.

On January 10, 2009, the accused and Reena were seen together in the house. Around 9 am, the mother of Jitendra, a neighbour of Rakesh, noticed that a street dog had entered into the house of Rakesh and did not come out. She went there to inform them and found all the family members missing and Reena hanging from the roof of the room. Jitendra informed the police. A report was lodged by Reena's father Ram Chandra.

He alleged that Ram Kumar and his family members were demanding a motorcycle and a gold chain. The post-mortem report revealed the cause of death as asphyxia as a result of strangulation.

In another case, additional district and sessions judge Bani Singh Nirala convicted a man named as Mahendra Singh for murdering his wife and sentenced him for life imprisonment. A fine of Rs 10,000 was also imposed against him.

The judge acquitted Shyamji, Beena, Ravindra Singh, Shailendra Singh, Surendra Singh and Shyama Devi for want of evidence.

Mahendra Singh, a resident of Awas Vikas in Panki on Kalyanpur Road got married to Soni on April 19, 2003. He pushed his wife in front of a running train at Kalyanpur railway station on February 2, 2008 as a result she died.
