BHAGALPUR: A woman from Kasimm Tola in Gotkhari village, in the early hours of Sunday morning, castrated her neighbour, who tried to attack her in the middle of the night.
Forty year old Noorjahan Khatoon was asleep when her neighbour Md. Sajjad entered her house and reportedly tried to outrage her modesty.
Sources say the incident took place around 1:30 - 2:00 AM, Md Sajjad managed to enter Noorjahan's house and tried to force himself on her. She resisted his attempts and in an attempt to save herself got hold of a knife and severed Md Sajjad's penis.
Village residents soon gathered at her house and informed the police. The Naugachia district police rushed to the spot and took Sajjad into custody besides taking him to a local health centre.
He was later shifted to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) for treatment, his condition is now critical. A case has been lodged against Md Sajjad on the statement of Noorjahan.
The DSP Naugachia police district, Arvind Kumar Singh confirmed the incident and said that the prima facie it seems that the lady counteracted against her tormentor in order to save herself.
Meanwhile, Rabina Khatoon, Md Sajjad's wife claims that her husband was called by Noorjahan to her place and was attacked because of some land dispute. She has mentioned the names of a few people who were part of the incident.
Police have increased patrolling in view of mounting apprehension in the village. Feminists have praised Noorjahan for her courage.
