HYDERABAD: A painter killed his wife by slitting her throat following a heated argument in Uppal on Saturday night. Later, he attempted to kill himself and is currently undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital.
Munni Devi, 25, was murdered by her husband Manturam, 30, of Jharkhand on Saturday night. The couple has two children. The family moved to the city five years ago in search of livelihood. On Sunday at about 6.30 am, Manturam's neighbours heard his children crying and banging on the door from inside. "As there was no response from the parents, neighbours broke the door open and found Munni Devi dead on the floor. With a bleeding injury on his throat, Manturam was lying next to her," Uppal inspector R Satyanarayana Raju said.
Neighbours immediately alerted police and the injured man was rushed to Gandhi hospital. They said Manturam had a heated argument with his wife about the latter wanting to leave the city and return to their native place. "We suspect that, in a fit of rage, Manturam might have slit the throat of his wife using a kitchen knife. The weapon was found next to the body," the inspector added. Police said that Manturam's condition was also critical and cases were slapped against him under sections 302 (Murder) and 309 (Attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC).
