MUMBAI: A 25-year-old youth, Sachin Choukekar, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly molesting his six-year-old neighbour.
The victim, who resides at Shivneri Nagar in Bhayander (W), was playing outside her house on Saturday around 2 pm when Choukekar approached her. He offered her chocolates and took her to a plastic moulding unit he owns in the locality.
There, he tried to force himself on the girl. The child ran home and confided in her mother who, along with neighbours, confronted Choukekar.
The youth was beaten up by angry locals and brought to the Bhayander police station. The victim's parents allege that police officials did not take down their complaint and let off Choukekar after a warning.
The victim's father, who works for a cargo firm in Mumbai, said, "Assistant sub-inspector Mukta Kshirsagar tried to dissuade me from lodging a complaint saying it could tarnish's my young daughter's name and spoil her future prospects. But I insisted on filing a complaint."
Kshirsagar, however, denied this and said, "It was the girl's parents who were not willing to file a complaint."
On Sunday, the victim's parents approached local MNS leaders, following which a delegation of party workers went to the police station with them. The same evening, the police filed a molestation case against Choukekar.
