NEW DELHI: A Delhi University professor, teaching Fine arts at a college in Tilak Marg area, was arrested on Friday evening for allegedly molesting a student on the pretext of passing her in the exams. The professor, identified as one Savi Savarkar, 51, is a resident of Vaishali and also is a well-known painter. The girl studies in the same college and is in her final year.
"We received a complaint from the student and the accused was arrested immediately but as the offence is bailable, so he was granted bail later. The accused reportedly molested the girl on August 4," said a senior police officer.
As per the complaint, the victim had failed in her examination and was very upset about it. The professor allegedly touched her inappropriately on the pretext of passing her. The girl objected to it and reported the matter to police.
A police officer said that the girl initially wanted the professor to apologize and finish the matter but the accused reportedly showed arrogance and that was when the victim lodged an FIR and got him arrested
