Aug 11, 2011: Guards molest DU student in classroom

Delhi:  Forget about safety issues outside the premises, it appears female students face unforeseen threats inside their institutions as well. A B.Com second-year student of Satyawati College of Delhi University (DU) was allegedly held hostage and molested on August 6 by two security guards of the institute inside her classroom, after they found her in a compromising position with a male friend. 

The two accused extorted money from her, threatening to tarnish her image. The victim complained to the college principal and then approached the police after which both the accused were arrested. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of northwest Delhi, Meenu Chaudhary confirmed the apprehensions. 

"On the complaint of the girl, the accused security guards were arrested. They have been identified as Rakesh and Harkesh," said Meenu Chaudhary.

Meanwhile, a senior police official said that an FIR under section 342 (holding a person hostage), 509 (outraging modesty of a woman), 348 (extortion), and 354 (molestation) was lodged against the accused at Bharat Nagar Police Station of northwest Delhi.

The victim, lives in Nirankari Colony in north Delhi. The incident took place on August 6.

"Their classes were over but they were sitting inside the room. The security guards found them in a compromising position. They barged inside and asked what they were doing but the students had no answer.
 
The guards then threatened them that they will tell the college principal what they were doing inside the classroom and demanded Rs. 2000 from them. Sneha gave them Rs. 200 in cash and requested them not to tell anyone about the incident. She promised them Rs. 1800 the next day. The accused guards sent her friend outside the classroom and molested her," said a police source.

The source said that next day the girl complained to the principal against the duo accused. She then approached the police along with her friend to get an FIR registered in this respect.

"Harkesh is deployed at the parking area of the college while Rakesh is deployed at other side of the college. Both were arrested on August 8. They were produced before a court which remanded them to the judicial custody of 14 days," said a police official.
