NAGPUR: A 28-year-old man tried to kill his girlfriend aged 24 in Nagpur on Sunday, which incidentally was Friendship Day. The girl, a final year student of MBA, was assaulted with a sharp weapon by her former boyfriend at her rented residence.
Sakshi Kale was rescued by her landlord and rushed to a private hospital. Amardeep Bansod, who was arrested, had apparently planned to end his own life after killing Kale, to avenge being ditched. Police recovered a suicide note apart from a kitchen knife from him.
Police said that Kale and Bansod had been close to each other for some years. Kale hails from Yavatmal while Bansod resides at Wardha. They had developed an amorous relationship after meeting each other at the wedding party of a common friend. Kale had shifted to Nagpur for studies some years ago. She was currently staying at a rented room on the second floor of a house on Telangkhedi Road with a room partner.
It is learnt that Kale had recently developed relations with a fellow student of MBA final year, and Bansod came to know about it. He was livid with the developments between Kale and the new person in her life. He had also threatened her in the past over the issue.
Police said that Bansod had taken a knife from his residence at Wardha and taken a bus to Nagpur. He used to frequent the city to meet Kale and would often visit Kale at her rented apartment. She had introduced Bansod as her brother to the landlords.
The landlord, who resides on the ground floor, rushed up to Kale's room after hearing the commotion on Sunday. Their timely intervention resulted in Kale being saved and Bansod being nabbed red-handed.
Ambazari police have charged Bansod with attempt to murder. Sources from Ambazari police station said Bansod argued before the court that the presence of Kale's friend prompted the attack.
