ALWAR: A 22-year-old man alleged he was tied to a tree by some supporters of a student leader and his wife was raped and then murdered in front of him in Alwar district on Thursday night.
The police said the man has changed his statement many times during questioning which is raising doubts over his story, but they have registered a case against unidentified men and rounded up two suspects, believed to be students. According to the police, Jitendra Meena, a resident of Surer villagein Rajgarh police station area, was on his way to his in-laws' house with his wife Maruti when the incident took place around 9 pm.
"Jitendra says that his bike was intercepted by a jeep in which there were six to seven supporters of a candidate of students' union elections," said a police officer. He added that they tried to misbehave with his wife and when he protested, they beat him up. "Jitendra claims the attackers tied him to a tree and kept thrashing him. He says that he was beaten unconscious," said the officer. Jitendra says that while he was conscious the assailants tore off the clothes of his wife and molested her. "When he gained consciousness, he saw his wife lying dead.
As only one hand and a leg were tied up, he extricated himself and informed his family members," said the officer. As Jitendra told the villagers about the incident, they blocked a road throughout the day.
