NEW DELHI: A 20-year old woman was allegedly raped by a doctor in the Nazafgarh area of southwest Delhi on Sunday morning. The accused, identified as Devraj Verma, has been arrested.
"The woman lodged a complaint saying that she had been sedated and raped when she had gone for treatment. Medical examination confirmed the rape and a case was registered under the appropriate sections of the IPC. The accused was nabbed immediately," said a senior police officer.
The incident took place around 9am when the victim, who is married and hails from Jhajjar district in Haryana, went to the doctor's clinic accompanied by her sister-in-law. The doctor called her inside a room in his clinic-cum-nursing home on the pretext of examining the problem while her relative waited outside. During treatment the woman was made to sniff something after which she fell unconscious, said cops.
When she regained consciousness, the woman realized that she had been raped and informed her sister-in-law. Upon confrontation the doctor dismissed the allegation of rape. However, when he saw the victim's relative calling the cops, he started pleading guilty.
The doctor, who claims to be an Ayurvedacharya, has been running a clinic in the main Nazafgarh market since many years, said police sources.
